Doing It Better is a training program for teachers, social service professionals, caregivers, and families who want to facilitate healthy sexuality education for individuals with intellectual disabilities. Developed by SHNS in 2017, the program aims to promote positive sexual health for intellectually disabled individuals, as well as prevent instances of sexual violence among the intellectually disabled population in Nova Scotia.
Development of this training program was funded by the Government of Nova Scotia through the Sexual Violence Strategy. A pilot version of the program took place from 2016-17.
Doing it Better is currently being reviewed and updated, and we are seeking additional funding for the program. We hope to be able to offer access to the Facilitator’s Manual and provide training opportunities in 2021.
If you are interested in becoming a trained facilitator, please contact us to be added to the waitlist for future training.
