Sexual Health Nova Scotia (SHNS) has hired a new Provincial Coordinator to oversee the collaboration among six of the province’s sexual health centres.
Leigh Heide joined the organization on July 9 and will assume all duties as Provincial Coordinator over the coming weeks.
In their new role, Mx. Heide will be responsible for coordinating a network of sexual health centres collaborating to promote positive sexual health across the province. As SHNS spokesperson, Mx. Heide will also serve as a provincial voice on urgent sexual and reproductive health issues, such as STI prevention, access to abortion care, and sexual health education in schools.
“This is an exciting opportunity for me to work within the sexual health field across the province, to support those folks having a direct impact in their communities, and to have a voice on subjects I have long been passionate about,” says Mx. Heide.
A Mahone Bay resident, Mx. Heide has a background in social work, youth programming, and community theatre. In addition to working as the Youth Services Coordinator for Second Story Women’s Centre from 2014 to 2018, they also currently coordinate the Healthy Relationships program for LGBTQ+ youth through the NS Youth Project.
